Keeping Busy in the Financial District |
On a visit to New York City take a tour of Manhattan’s historical financial district, located at the southernmost tip of the island. The area extends south of city hall where a great amount of sites can be viewed. Here tourists can view the fast pace lifestyle that New Yorkers live where men and women wearing suits and are chatting away on their cell phones. The financial district is very busy during the day where people work at large and important companies however; during the weekends and at night the area reverts back to a calm and relax atmosphere. When traveling to this neighborhood, do not be taken back by the large masses or the fancy people walking around because there is plenty to see and do.
Wall Street is the most identifiable street in the financial district where many important buildings stand. An important landmark that represent American capitalism, is the New York Stock Exchange and is located on Wall Street. This is home to world’s largest stock exchange where top companies trade assets. Also head down to the Federal Reserve Bankof New York where you can learn the roles and responsibilities of the Federal Bank but, note to reserve a tour because it is very popular. The financial districts is not all about the financial industry, one can see music, dance, and art performance. The Trinity Church is Manhattan’s first established parish and is an absolutely beautiful site.

Walk down to Battery park and see the beautiful gardens and the trees that this residential area has to offer. Battery park has an excellent view of the New York harbor and you can see Ellis island, where millions of immigrants first came when they arrived in America. There is a picturesque view of the Statue of Liberty, a monument donated from America to France in 1886, to honor American independence. The south street seaport is popular with tourist because it has a large amount of shops dated back from 1800s, a mall, restaurants, and the museum with its main attraction of historic ships. During the summer there are outdoor activities with concerts and events as well as outdoor dining.

The Financial district is also home to horrific event that took place on 11th of September of 2001, but is simply known to Americans as 9/11. Where the World Trade Center stood before is now known as ground zero, bound north and south by Vessey and Liberty streets and east and west by Church and West street. Currently the site is under construction, but if you visit there you can see the monument that will be dedicated to the all victims who perished during the attacks of 9/11.
There has been an increase demand for housing in this area because of the abundance of jobs and the tranquility during the weekend.
