Manhattan’s trendy neighborhood known as the Meatpacking District, is located from north 14th street south to Gansevoort street, and west from the Hudson river to east to Hudson street. This area is small encompassing a 20 block radius which makes this neighborhood a good place to walk around and visit the numerous sites it has to offer. The Meatpacking District received its name due to the fact that this zone contained up to 250 slaughter houses and packing plants. Currently there are 35 slaughter houses and packing plants that remain in the area.
Beginning in the late 1990′s the area began a transformation from a rundown neighborhood to one that contains high end boutiques as well as an abundance of activities to do. The elevated railway known as High Line was spared desecration and is now used as 1.5 mile park along the Hudson river. Here one can find bicycle paths and green gardens. For
those who are interested in art there are various art galleries one can visit during their excursion in the Meatpacking District. Moreover, the street art in this area is very vibrant that brings awe to the eyes. The art exhibitions draw large crowds therefore; large number of people can be met which is perfect for people interested in art.
For people looking for a good place to eat there are restaurants such as Pastis, a popular restaurant that offers French cuisine, and Spice Market which serves Asian food. If visiting a hot and trendy club is what you prefer, the Meatpacking district has some of best in New York City that attracts all types of crowds. Popular clubs such as Cielo and PM have an interesting decor with a lot of space for dancing and great DJs to compliment the fun. If you prefer more laid back lounges or clubs, that can also be found in the Meatpacking District.
