While most American holidays, such as Veteran’s Day and Memorial Day revolve around remembering fallen heros or wars, Thanksgiving is about sharing. Proclaimed a holiday in 1863 by President Lincoln, it’s inspiration was the first harvest celebration between the Pilgrims and Native Americans.

In New York City you can see the full force of Thanksgiving takeover with the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Watched by over 3.5 million people each year, this spectacle began in 1924. This year it starts at 9am, and goes from Herald Square to 77th st., but the best view is said to be between 61st and 72nd on Central Park West.

The Feast
The core of Thanksgiving is the great feast often surrounding a rousted turkey, with the necessary sides of cranberry sauce, stuffing, gravy, and pie! Yum!
